Making a 6 Liter Puke Coolant
Making a 6 Liter Puke Coolant
Well guys (and gals?) I have a perfect test mule. I have access to an 07 6 liter that has a known coolant puking problem when his Exxx box is on level 3 or above. I will have a chance to develop some tunes on this truck and figure out exactly what it takes to make this thing loose it's lunch....... On level 5 it will puke the entire cooling system in a little more than a 1/4 mile.... pretty amazing to watch!
The sniper special forces programs even at 100HP don't have this problem since these tunes are very easy on the motors but I am looking to develop something a bit more extreme. I am recommending aftermarket head studs for this guy if he ever takes it in to the dealer as I suspect under heavy load with the stock program it would puke........
Any body else here doing anything on these trucks and encountered this issue?

Re: Making a 6 Liter Puke Coolant
I had this problem on my 04 6.0, but it ended up being the egr cooler. i have yet to try Delta Force on my truck, but will shortly. I will be happy to help anyway I can. I have a couple of tunes in Sxx that make prety nasy power, but coolant usually "pukes". Cylinder pressures are getting really high I assume.

I have been working with Trucksource Diesel (another Sniper tuner) and have developed some pretty hot tunes that don't puke on his 07.
When your EGR cooler was causing the puking was there oil in your coolant? This wounded test truck pukes clean coolant and no oil is present.

Nope, no oil just coolant.

Whats up fellas. its amazing that some 6.0s can hold and some cant. The torque (stretch) to yield bolts were not a good decision by Ford and IH for these motors, especially when there are only 4 bolts per cylinder. Im curious as to how timing and pressure effect the puking. we have ran a decent amount of timing, but nothing crazy, into my 6.0 and no puking yet. 14.3@94 mph so far @8000lbs.
Re: Making a 6 Liter Puke Coolant
Yeah, but now you killed our scientific test with those 35's you put on there......LOL I guess you will have to put the stock program back on there and do a before and after......
It's amazing what a bone stock 6.0 can do with a little programming!

Re: Making a 6 Liter Puke Coolant
dont hate the player, hate the game lol. We can still slap the stock tires and wheels on it for a trip down the track. i think 13.9s are acheivable w/ some more tuning and perhaps some sort of fuel delivery system. Right now i am dropping to 40-41lbs under full boost and wot.
Anyone notice puking in relation to timing or extreme injection pressures? Any other trends?

Re: Making a 6 Liter Puke Coolant
The "puking" comes from to much inj. timing. All that timing is not needed to make power. The way that I have found best to tune a diesel, is to watch the EGT. When it gets too high, back off the timing some. Also a ton of black smoke will just flat out hurt power. A diesel makes it's power from the heat from compression. If you have way to much fuel going into the engine, then you have to give it more inj. lead, which in turn will raise the EGT. SO what I like to do it get the inj. timiing where I like it, then start putting the fuel to it. A 6.0 can make awsome power and not puke.

What would you consider too much timing?

Re: Making a 6 Liter Puke Coolant
It's relative to the amount of fuel you are pumping in. It's all about cylinder pressure.....
Boost pressure comes into play as well....
I would advise starting a new thread in the secure dealers area if you guys want to start talking about specifics....

Why not post the specifics here?
You would be supprised how little the timing needs to be.

Well, other brand users can look at what we are doing in our delta force tunes and make changes to their own stuff.
We have a secret fueling adder on the 6.0s that only we know about and you have to have the timing too to get it to burn...
On the 7.3 there isn't an issue and not much difference in power with timing added unless you are running big hybrid injectors.... Most of the time when I add timing on big fueling tunes, power goes up and temperature goes down because it isn't burning fuel in the exhust anymore.
This isn't just a global adder either like in the Special Forces. There are specific spots that need to be addressed in the timing map.

An admin has to put you in the restricted dealers area if you are a delta force dealer.
Sharing info is a two-way street though.....LOL Just kidding....
Is that your truck in the Avatar?

Yep, just got it together. I'll wait to hear from Chris, that's who I've delt with in the past. I have a lot of info on what works with my combo that I don't mind sharing with tuners that can keep it in the family.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is your left front tire off the ground in your avatar pic? What kind of ET's do you lay down?

I'm at 1530-1550 through the 1/4 mile at 5800ft elevation. Test runs at 5300ft are 1450-1480 deg.

So are you running B codes with big oil? What kind of times are you seeing with the combo?

Re: Making a 6 Liter Puke Coolant
Anyone wanting a good starting point on a safe yet powerful file should look to SF to make a starter file for them. Keep in mind we did design some safety into the files. Just load a tuned SF file in Delta and then load the stock file and mark changes. You will notice where we made changes and see what you might do to make more power. There is alot of power left over a straight SF file.
