04 F150 w/ 5.4

Post by pilgrim » Wed Sep 12, 2007 11:14 pm

Hi, I just heard about sniper a couple of weeks ago and i'm really interested in it. What kind of results would I be able to get out of my 04 5.4? Sorry the question is so vague, anything info is more than I had so, thanks.

Better throttle response and more power. There are alot of gains to be had with the Special Forces even on 87 octane. I also have some custom tunes available that even optomize some of the shift points for better part throttle driving. You will notice a difference with the Special Forces for sure.

What about better gas mileage? I do a lot of highway driving and gas is killer. What kind of gains could I expect?

The Special Forces software will increase your efficiency especially on 93 octane, but there are gains for 87 as well.

I have 2 custom versions of the 87 octane tunes. The first 87 octane tunes give nice power increases and you can tow with them while still using cheap gas. The more aggressive 87 octane tune adds some efficency in the crusing ranges but would probably require 91 octane for towing with this tune.

The first tune you should get a 1MPG increase and the aggressive will give you 2-3 typically. Both tunes give better in-town economy because of corrected shift points. The difference between the two is in how much timing is dialed in. The more timing you can run, the more efficient the engine can run.
PM me if interested.

You can also start with the basic Special Forces package and get custom tunes from any of the dealers here on the forums.

The difference between the two is in how much timing is dialed in. The more timing you can run, the more efficient the engine can run. What exactly does that mean?

Timing refers to Ignition Timing on gasoline engines. This is when the mixture is lit and drives the piston downward. If you can do this sooner than stock you get more time to extract energy from the same amount of fuel. The limiting factor is fuel octane. You can get away with a little more with cheap gas but not much. Usually if the vehicle is tuned for premium fuel you get a mileage benefit that pays for the difference in the price of the fuel. Premium fuel tunes also make big power gains over tunes meant for regular unleaded.

Hope this helps,

I had an 07 Mustang GT that I had the crew tune, and I purchased the programmer after I got it done. I have since traded the Mustang for my F-150, but kept my tuner. Will my tuner and software work for my F-150, or will I have to get a new one? Also, do I have to purchase something to be able to use it? I was very impressed with the gains on my Mustang, and would love to be able to use the software on my truck!

depending on the version kit you have, you may need to send it in for an update. Is there an sticker on the Interface box with a hand written number?

it says 3.0 it was in 07 that I purchased the system when I came down to Sanford and you used my Mustang as a test vehicle for new software. The only sticker that's on the unit says 3.0

OK your version will not work with the 04 f150 , you will need to send in the interface and get the V14\19 upgrade.
