Thermostat change/ what table to change?

Post by Charlie » Mon Oct 15, 2007 7:36 pm

I want to change from 180 deg. to a 160 deg, thermostat. What do I change in D/F since there are no provisions in S/F? I have a good idea. Just want to be sure.

Thanks

A Lightning's Thermostat is a manual operation and the stock fan set up is attached to the crank so I don't think there is anything that Delta Force could offer.

Even with moving to an e-fan like some of us have done the e-fan is a stand alone system that works off its own temp sensor and is not a part of the L's PCM environment.

what is the scalar for temperature to return to startup fuel table and temp to switch to stabilized fuel table in your file?

You might just want to set those below your thermostat temp with about 10 degrees between the 2.

That's about all i can think of.....

Thats one. It's at 160 The others where ECT warm up time, ISC rpm adder for ECT (for drive ability) . The one that concerns me is Spark retard for ECT. I would not even know what to do with that one yet, if anything even needs to be changed. The injector timing for ECT is all 0's, so no worries there.

I've had over a dozen tunes in my L, from chips to mail order to dyno tunes, and none of the tuners did anthing special for the 160 degree thermostat I had installed.

From what I gathered it just allows the engine to run a little cooler.

Now some L owners have thrown codes by going to the 160 t-stat but mine did not so nothing extra was needed.

just change the temp scalars for the fuel maps and you will be fine. It will automatically add the timing for the cooler ECT so you don't need to screw with that funcition.

Unless you throw codes, I highly recommend you leave those scalars alone.

I have not changed anything yet. That why I ask the experts first.
It took me a week of reading before I made my first simple change.

Thanks

Thats what I was looking for. I've been told by, I don't know how many people " the tune needed to be changed for the 160 deg. thermostat"

If you want to play it safe just go with a 170 t-stat.

The extra 10 degrees won't matter that much.

How "modded" are you?

I run a built engine, KB @ 17 Lbs (street), TSI tranny, E-fan, Stage 2 Crowers, ported heads, hi-flow cats, cat back, plus the other usual add ons. Dyno'd 532HP / 582 Tq wih a crappy Predator tune.

The conversion to Sniper was necessary due to the lack of a decent tuner in the midwest. SOTP so far is the Sniper tune, Delta adjusted feels a whole lot stronger. I'll be back at the track next week end to get some real numbers.

I don't have the, no tuner excuse in Dallas. They just would not give me what I wanted (drive ability).... May be I'm too picky.
