A few Lightning Tuning questions.
A few Lightning Tuning questions.
A few Lightning Tuning questions.
I read the write up and watched the video and I must say there incredible, great job.
But I still have a few questions, so here it goes.
1- I did no see a selection for Dual 255lph fuel pumps.
2- I am clueless on the Returnless Fuel Pressure option.
Also do you think you will ever add the ability for a sct big air or mafia? Just wondering as I know those are two of the most used in the ford Lightning world.
Thank's again for any help.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
I believe you can select Twin cobra or Focus and it will work. As far as the fuel goes some people have an aftermarket fuel system which may be a return style and the stock fuel system is return-less ! Hope this helps

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
Although not our preferred method (because of inconsistencies), the BA2400 & BA2800 is supported in the Special Forces software (v11 or higher). We do prefer our 95mm Bazooka. The video shown is an older version.
Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
Awesome. I was beginning to worry that my Ba2800 would have to be replaced. whew

Thank's for the help gang.
Well crap, figures I was going to buy a Big Air, but went the cheaper route and got the Mafia as they accomplish the same goal for alot cheaper.
And the Focus pump selection would not work as there only 143 lph pumps, if you have dual focus pumps, thats still only a total of 286lph.
The Cobra Pumps are dual 119lph pumps (total of 238lph).
So I guess there is no option then for dual 255lph pumps?
That might limit alot of potential buyers, as those are the most popular pumps everyone uses, and in my case, there a must or I will starve my engine, go lean, and have a nice window installed in my block.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
The fuel pump option doesn't matter with the Lightnings. Those trucks have a return fuel system so the fuel pump type/size doesn't effect tuning. The fuel pump option only effects vehicles with the returnless systems. so you are good to go with the Special Forces.MMShaggy wrote:Thank's for the help gang.

Ahh very cool.
Thank's Sniper Chris.
Now I guess I just have to figure out my Mafia Dilema, and all questions are set aside.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
I have had nothing but good luck using the bazooka, its a good investment assuring that you will never have to worry about exceeding the meter, drivability is excellent, I have used almost every meter out there, some are so bad you have to keep clocking them just to get the car to idle, this one seems to be the most consistant which leaves you with less time in trying to get the vehicle to have a smooth a/f curve.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
Thanks for the info. Figures I had just bought a MAfia the other day. I know I won't have any issues with the mafia pegging 5V. Was just wondering how much harder it is to tune using one.
Look's like I might just sell it, and go with the bazooka, as I love the look of it as well.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
Another question just to clarify my curiosity.
I currently have my truck tuned with a SCT Xcal2.
Can I use the Special Forces/Commando to read the current tune & then further tweak it? Or do I need to start from scratch?
Wondering about retaining shift points at certain RPM ranges, Timing, Spark. I'm not sure if I can just save all this info into the Sniper software, then go destroy the xcal2 & continue tweaking my already custom tune I have currently?

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
Theres a yes and no to that question. Yes you can read it and modify it, but I wouldn't recommend it with it Special Forces. Special Forces will yield a file that is every bit as good or better than a mail order tune. From there you can tweak the file Special Forces made to be perfect.
To actually read the file and tweak that, I would point you in the direction of Commando. That's the program with all of the tables, functions, and scalars. You can read the file, save it, and if you choose, you can copy and paste anything to a new tune, I assure you it's all there.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
Sorry if I am breaking in on this post but I just bought the Commando set up and reading this post I see I may have a problem since I now use a Mafia extender on my stock 90mm MAF
Do I need to get a new MAF (i.e. Bazooka) of will Commando let me work with the MAf arrangement I have?
Vehicle: 2002 Lightning, built block, KB S/C (17 ~ 22 lbs of boost), Dual 255 pumps, Aeromotive fuel rails and lines, stock headers, hi-flow cats and cat back exhaust, TSI race tranny w/2600 stall converter, plus the ususal rest of bolt on mods.
Help please I want to start out correctly.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
The MAFia will work with Commando. You'll have to modify the two injector slopes, airmass, breakpoint, and manifold volume by the setting your using.
IE multiply all of the above scalars by .76

Rhynotune.......
GREAT, thanks for the assistance.
My Mafia is set for position #3, so......
...... is the .76 rescaler still the correct calculation?

No I think it's .54

Rhynotune.........
Once again, thank you for the assistance.
Suggestions on whom I should ask to make sure the Predator level 3 scaler is .54?
One thing that worried me about Sniper is having to become an actual esxpert "tuner". I don't mind making some small adjustments but am concerned about *needing* to dig deep into tuning parameters.
I know my Lightning needs a better tune to bring out most of its potential but becoming a "tuner" is not one of my focal points.
Here in the upper Illinois we have few choices for modular engine tuning and the ones we have all appear to have some noticeable deficit.
Again, thanks for the help.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
For info sake, the scaler is .59.
However, I just ordered the Bazooka after looking at all the sections I would need to change and not wanting to miss one or insert a wrong calculation.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
Bringing back on of my old post from the past.
Above was stated we could pull an existing tune using commando, save that, and use it as a base line tune to tweak.
But after receiving my Special Forces Commando Friday, the first page of the book says:
Make sure that your vehicle's computer is in its original condition and has factory calibration installed. If you have any other performance computer modifications or programs installed(Chip or Programmer), you risk the chance of harming your vehicle's engine. You must make sure your vehicle has it's original factory calibration installed and that there are not and pending trouble codes(they must be cleared) Sniper, Inc. will not be responsible for damage to your vehicle as a result.
So am I not reading this right? Or is it not saying to return my vehicles ECM to stock first before I can use the sniper software?
My 2003 Lightning was custom tuned(not mail order) with an SCT Xcal2. I want to grab this tune, save it. Then return the ECM to stock. Then start tuning. This way if I have any issues that I can not figure out, I can always reload my original tune.
Also my second question is:
Do all vehicles of the same year and type have the same PCM computer box code?
I was looking for the 2003 Ford Lightning code. I would pull the ECM and look, but the truck is not currently with me, and I wanted to open up the software and mess around with a tune.
Would anyone happen to know what the computer box code is for an 03 ford lightning?
Thanks.

Re: A few Lightning Tuning questions.
Never mind, I'm scatter brained. Hollywood racing called me up and explained it all to me.
I was reading the info for Special Forces, not Commando/Delta Forces.
