Deathrattle...

Post by deathrattle » Sun Sep 20, 2015 9:15 pm

I had a thread going in the old site. But I guess none of the old topics carried over to the new format. So I will start over.

I have an 03 Mustang GT. It currently has a 4.6 SOHC 2V stock short block, Patriot Performance stage 2 heads, stock PI cams, Professional Products intake manifold with their upper plenum and 75mm TB. I also have the TB spacer and upper plenum spacer. I have a Vortech V2 S-Trim supercharger with the 3.60 pulley which gives me about 5-6 psi boost max. I have a power pipe, 42 pound Lucas injectors, SCT BA 2400 MAF (or it might be the 2600), 290 LPH fuel pump, 4.10 gears, built trans with upgraded internals and Transgo Transpak, and a 2400 stall converter. I just recently got some MSD Blaster ignition coils and I have a 3.33 pulley that I will be installing on Monday (9/21/15) to get my boost back to 8-10 psi...I lost about 3 pounds of boost going from the stock PI heads to these Patriot heads. I tune it all with Sniper SF. So far I am using the standard tune with 5 degrees global timing added in. The car runs good and drives great. It is fast but the lack of boost is killing it. So once I install the 3.33 pulley I will change the boost amount in SF and leave everything else the same and see how it runs. I'll update when I install the pulley! Feel free to comment or ask questions. I hope you follow along with my project.

Today I put the smaller 3.33 pulley on. I also re-wired the MAF sensor since the connections were all a little loose. So I drove it and it was fine. I'm up to 8-10 psi boost max now. And the tune is everything for a supercharged GT with +5 degrees global timing added in. Gonna try to mess around with the tune and see what changes I can make!! And I'm always looking for some ST headers and mild aftermarket cams to add in!! I'll keep you all posted!!

So once again I am losing boost. I replaced the Bosch bypass valve with a stronger aftermarket part and it is still losing boost. And it has some hesitation. So I'm gonna try replacing my intake manifold gaskets tomorrow. I'll update later.

So it turns out that I didn't need to replace my intake manifold gaskets. I finally got the tune right. I changed the MAF and fuel injector settings in SF and now the car is running great. I mean this thing has lots of serious power!! So for now I'm just gonna leave it alone, let it stay as it is, and enjoy it. It is raining as we have a hurricane that is passing thru so I can't really get on it. But just driving it normally is a blast. Once the weather clears up, probably after the weekend, I'll take it out for some spirited driving. I'll keep you all updated.

Did some driving and got some pinging. So I took some timing out. Unfortunately as of right now I do not have a wideband. I am getting one soon. So until then I have to play it very safe so I don't damage my engine. I took out -5 degrees of timing at Low, Mid, and High RPMs and I took out -5 degrees of timing globally. On top of that I won't be doing any hard driving for now. On my list of future upgrades are 60lb injectors, a CX Racing intercooler system, a wideband AFR gauge, ST headers, and maybe a stage 1 cam. Stay tuned for updates.

Maybe overkill with the amount of timing you took out but if the car still drives ok then better safe than sorry.

Yea the main thing is to play it safe. I didn't want to remove all that timing but that is the only way I could get it to stop pinging. It is still very fast. And it rides clean and has a good amount of power. For now I am happy with it. By Summer I will have a intercooler and some bigger injectors and hopefully a wideband so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to add some timing back to it.

I know. But unfortunately I don't have one and I won't have one for a while. So for now I gotta make do with what I got.
