Just a helpful warning to new tuners

Post by cdjnight » Sun Oct 07, 2007 9:36 pm

Do Not change Global spark multiplier, confusing it with Global Spark adder. I was out tuning in my car and wanted to add 1 degree of timimg Global and did this. Long story short I shattered a piston and threw a rod out the side of the block. I just glanced at the setting and changed it from 1 to 2 and boom!

Damn... that sucks.... yeah the global adder is usually 0 on a stock file and the multiplier is 1 stock. Ouch.... so you were running double the timing your should have been.....

I don't think a forged bottom end would have blown instantly, I think I would have melted some plugs or something first to give me some sort of warning, But the conditions I was in where perfect for this to happen how it did. Second gear without much load, to full throttle for maybe 2 seconds and then into 3rd gear with full load which is when it blew. All this happened in maybe 5 seconds.

So what if you wanted to just 2 degrees across the range you would use global spark adder. And set the global multiplier to 0?

The correct number is 1 for the multiplier reguardless. If you multiply by "0" the result would be "0" always leave multiplier at 1.

That does suck! Sorry to hear that. I have always thought to myself, why even have the ability to change the multiplier. If you are looking for a new short block, we can help you out.

Yes, you would change the global adder. This will add all across the board.

I have a new one going in soon it's already built. I had a forged bottom end 5.4 built and sent the heads out and had them cnc ported, bigger valves, and a set of Comp cams put in.
I'm putting the T63 back in with a complete tubular front end and B&M holeshot converter. Can't wait to get it running again. I'm shooting for 500+ rwhp on 92 gas.
